Response

Q.1 Does your authority have a programme to inform residents of their own responsibility to prepare for emergencies, for example by maintaining supplies of food, water, medicines and communications equipment?

The County Council does not currently operate a dedicated programme specifically for this purpose. However, we work closely with a range of partner organisations across Hampshire to support emergency preparedness and resilience. This includes contributing to and sharing relevant local, regional and national campaigns and guidance, where appropriate.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Resilience Forum (HIOW LRF) also provides practical information and advice to help residents and communities prepare for emergencies and understand the steps they can take to improve their resilience.

 Guidance is available for:

Q.2 What methods are used to communicate this, for example leaflets, a dedicated website or information campaigns?

The County Council uses a wide range of channels to communicate and share emergency preparedness information with the public. These include our website, social media channels, newsletters and other digital communications, as well as targeted communications and campaigns where appropriate.

We also work closely with partner organisations, including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Resilience Forum (HIOW LRF), to share and amplify preparedness messaging and ensure residents can access trusted and relevant information.

Communications methods will vary depending on the nature of the information, the audience we need to reach and the circumstances, with a combination of digital and other channels used as appropriate.
